We always have “to do” lists: grocery, house chores, etc. So I’ve decided to make up a list of “to do” things for car enthusiasts. What you will find here is mainly the important events in the automotive world a car guy wouldn’t miss. Whether you’re a beginner, or a “car guru”, check out the list I’ve prepared for you and make sure you do all these things. Good luck!

Chasing Baja 1000

Now, this is something you can’t do in the United States, and gotta travel to Mexico. I’m talking about rally Baja 1000, the off-road race that takes place on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. Different types of vehicles take part in this competition while being on almost impassable road track. Dangerous? Yes, very dangerous. Not only it tests the driver’s sturdiness, but features the survival factor. Well, car enthusiasts are not afraid- they always accept the challenge.

Attend Route 66 Raceway

Located in Joliet, Illinois, Route 66 Raceway draws a huge crowd of car enthusiasts who are always hungry for its car shows or Demolition Derbies (at the dirt oval), the hosts drag racing events, and the whole atmosphere there. Route 66 Raceway consists of a dragstrip which is 0.25 miles long and a dirt oval, 0.5 miles long. From muscle cars to hot rods, to fire breathing jet cars, it’s all about drag racing action that you cannot miss.

Drive a Sprint Car

True car enthusiast should drive a sprint car at least once in a lifetime. What’s so special about it? Well, nothing can be compared to the feeling when you’re driving a small high-powered race vehicle running on the unpaved dirt tracks. After all, once you drive a sprint car, you can say that you know what adrenaline rush is about. lol

Restore a Muscle Car

Muscle car restoration is a “must do thing” for every car junkie. Whether it’s improving the looks and performance of the car or personalizing and increasing its value, there’s a real pleasure when you turn an old used duckling into a beautiful swan. The restoration process is not exactly a piece of cake, since there are many difficulties to overcome, but don’t you want to turn on that time machine???

Drive a Funny Car

Car guys do have a sense of humor. That’s why another “thing to do” in our list is driving a funny car. You might attract the attention of all the drivers and pedestrians on the street, but your funny car will make them smile as well. “Step outside the boundaries” is the motto of car enthusiasts.

Drive a Dream Car

No matter what your dream car is, an old jalopy or an expensive super car, dreams are to be fulfilled. You know, you aren’t a true car addict if you don’t follow your dreams. If you ask me what my dream car is, it would be Buggati Veyron Super Sport.

Go to the Daytona 500

It would be a major sin for a car guy not to attend the Daytona 500, which is one of the biggest racing events in America. It’s a 500 miles-long NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race which takes place in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event is so huge that it quickly sells out, so don’t you miss your chance this year!

Take Part in Wheel 2 Wheel Road Race

While tough truck races have been gaining popularity, Wheel to Wheel road race is one of the fastest growing motorsports in North America. The off road racing takes place in Alberta, Canada. Yeap…another event outside the United States, so you will have to travel in order to visit. Don’t forget that the so called combination of motocross and sprint car racing is a fun sport that requires taking security measures as well.

Race a Shifter Cart

You might have driven shifer carts in the amusement parks when being a child. Well, guess what? It’s time to drive the one for adults in order to experience the motorsports spirit. Did you know that shifter carts can reach 160 mph? It’s like ten times more than those go-carts meant for the general public in the amusement parks.

Paint Your Car Yourself

You love your car and you will love it even more when you paint it yourself. It’s not about saving money, but about having fun. After all, imagine how proud you’ll be to tell your friends you painted your ride on your own. Just remember that car painting requires patience, your enthusiasm and love to your ride.

Attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Attending the world’s oldest sports race in endurance racing would add extra points to the karma of car junkie. Indeed, there’s something iconic about attending such an event and spendy, I guess, cause it is held in France. The annual race is also recognized as the Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency due to the necessity for drivers to balance speed against the ability of the car to run for 24 hours without any mechanical maintenance. Just make sure you attend the event, not participate. Lol

Attend the 24 Hours of Le Mons

Those of you who can’t afford a trip to France, may skip the previous event, but attend the 24 Hours of Le Mons (a parody of the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans series) held in the U.S. What sets this race apart from its ancestor is that the cost of the car participating in 24 Hours of Le Mons must not exceed $500.

Own a Car With Flamethrowers

You might wanna get a car with flamethrowers until they become illegal, cause who knows, may be one day you won’t have such an opportunity. Cars with flamethrowers were first noticed in hot-rodding circles in the early 1950s. It goes without saying that some serious flamethrower tuning gives your car a really cool appearance you’ve dreamt about since childhood. What can I say? Don’t waste your time! Follow your dream!

Visit the Garlits’ Museum of Drag Racing

The best place for a car junkie to draw the inspiration from is the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing which is open since 1984. Located in Florida, it houses about 90 racing cars in Drag Race Building and about 50 cars in the Antique Car Building. You wouldn’t miss a chance to learn the history of the drag racing, would you?

See the Detroit Autorama

At last, but not the least, you’ve got to attend the Detroit Autorama in Detroit, Michigan, one of the largest shows, where custom-built cars are presented. The show is held annually since 1953. It started off as a hot rod show and now it gained huge popularity among car enthusiasts.
