Long-term dream of Ford Mustang fans has finally come true: The 2012 Boss 302 model was officially announced. It was representing by the Mustang chief engineer – Dave Pericak.

He said: “Before giving Mustang back a legendary «Boss» name, we had to make sure it has everything to become a worthy successor of this car. We had either to make the car properly or not do it at all, because none of us was going to just put on new wheels and simply stick a «Boss» label on it “.

Indeed, Boss 302 should be a tough, uncompromising and inspired by racing. This latest special edition Ford Mustang completely satisfies all the mentioned demands. Thus, the new pony car has got an improved grip, a better gearbox, adjustable suspension, upgraded brakes and a more powerful version of the five-liter V8, which generates 440 horsepower and 515 Nm of torque. The increased potential was gained by the intake system modifying and installation of the aggressive camshafts.

According to the manufacturer, Boss 302 was faster than the standard Mustang GT for two seconds on a regular race track. Moreover, the Americans take the BMW M3 as a base during the development of the sports car and tried to make the it faster than BMW on the Laguna Seca circuit. This goal has been eventually achieved.

The car’s exterior was inspired by the original model of 1969 – it has the same white or black roof, brand strips on the body, closed rim fog lamps, as well as more aggressive front splitter and rear spoiler. The charged Bose 302 is available in a number of unique color options: Competition Orange, Performance White, Kona Blue Metallic, Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat Metallic and Race Red.

The cockpit has lost five kilos of insulation, getting painted dark metallic scales, door panels and dashboard instead. The steering wheel is trimmed with a synthetic suede, and for the extra fee you can order sport seats by Recaro. Finally, Ford also plans to release Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca limited edition with a more rigid body, fortified chassis and aerodynamic bodywork from the Ford Racing Boss 302R.
