Engines Awards – Volkswagen Takes The 1st Prize

The world ceremony of the Best Automobile Engines Awards 2010 was arranged on the Engine Expo, which took place in Stuttgart. There are more engines debuted this year than in any other one during the12 years period the award is being held. 66 new engines were released this year and 59 of them are small volume ones (from 1 to 1.4 liters). Nevertheless, not only new engines could be awarded, but also the motors, which have been produced for several years. This time the crew of jury have chosen the 1,4-liter Volkswagen engine, which combines the compressor and turbocharger. This engine has took a Grand Prix last year and jury hadn’t found the equal competitors for it in 2010. That’s why the first prize went again to the Wolfsburg company. The engine, which could be found in Golf, Scirocco and Tiguan, is being producing for 5 years, but for three years it was beaten by BMW motors.

The “Best New Engine” Award was won by the 1.4 MultiAir Fiat turbo engine, which has shown itself well on models with the sporty character like Alfa Romeo Mito and Giulietta.

The prestigious “Motor Sport” and “4 Liters + Motor” was taken by the 6.2-liter V8 unit by AMG, which have won the same awards the last year. That motor is mounted on SLS, C63 AMG, E63 AMG and SL63 AMG and other models. To say the truth, it is not yet a tradition for Mercedes crew to earn such awards regularly. Before the last year, the company has just taken two awards by their engines: 55 and 64 by AMG in 2003 and 2004. From the other side, motors by BMW and Honda win the prizes quite regularly. These two companies have so far 50 and 22 awards respectively.
