Cayenne Junior: 2013 Porsche Cajun

Remember one of the most popular SUVs on the road, the Cayenne? Despite its great drivability, outstanding performance, power, and comfort, some might have found the Cayenne too big. I guess this is the main reason why the automaker decided to build a smaller SUV, named the Cajun (short for Cayenne junior). Treating Porsche fans with something a bit more crossover-like, the automaker offers the efficient model that is to expand the SUV sector and have an extremely positive impact. Indeed, those who drove the Cayenne, know what I mean. The Cayenne’s lil’ brother features ease of handling, lightweight, and the agility. Being more affordable than the Cayenne, the upcoming Cajun appears both sporty and efficient. Sounds good, hu? Well, guess what…Porsche finally gave the “go-signal” for the Cajun’s production. The baby SUV is to roll out in 2013. I’m sure younger customers will be really interested in this attractive entry model. Sharing platforms and drivetrain with Audi Q5, the Cajun obviously stands on a front-wheel-drive architecture.

What indicates that it’s no ordinary Q5 is such 2013 Porsche Cajun Parts, as the large wheels and black fender flares. The Cajun takes over the Panamera and Cayenne’s interior styling, to be exect the wide central backbone of knobs and buttons, as well as an instrument cluster. As for underhood, the base Cajun will carry the Q5’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 235 hp. The higher-trim models will be equipped with Volkswagen’s supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, pumped up to 290 hp. The upcoming Cajun will also get a Porsche-sourced twin-turbo V-6, which makes more than 350 hp. Expect the Cajun to arrive as both, three- and five-door versions as well.

While rumors about Cayenne junior have been floating for months on end, the Cajun testing mule has been caught near Porsche’s testing center at the Nurburgring. The Porsche Cajun protoype is wearing Audi duds.
