2014 Lexus IS: Camo Peeled Off

Just a few days left till the grandiose 2013 Detroit Auto Show (which we all anticipate greatly), and the Japanese brand Lexus dropped a set of pictures revealing the new 2014 IS sedan. While most details are kept under wraps, it’s still good to check out the model’s sharper exterior and interior styling. The available powertrains are still not announced, but the new Lexus most likely will be produced with the 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engines coupled to 8-speed automatics under its hood.

Whether it’s good or not, the IS’s exterior design is very close to the already seen LF-CC coupe concept’s design. Photos of the F Sport trim version reveal the more aggressive body treatments (the bespoke front grille treatment and bumper designs) and the bigger Lexus wheels. What makes the sedan look extremely sharp is the large single-piece “Spindle Lexus grille”, separate LED running lights, and the wave-styled headlights. The concept’s theme continues at the rear with sharp Lexus IS taillights wrapping around the corners and ending half-way to the wheel arches. Below is the model presented in F Sport trim, where its design is a result of the preserved looks of its predecessor, while evolved by the latest version of the bigger GS.

Not to mention the additional luggage capacity. What makes it both feel and look sportier is the driving position (a lower seat hip point) and the angle of the new steering wheel. The latter provides an increased reach adjustment. In fact, the interior design didn’t change much either. Well, inspired from the LFA supercar, the IS’s interior boasts higher quality cabin materials and finishes throughout.

One can say that the inside is kinda revolutionary, since it has a Lexus-first electrostatic switches with just finger touch needed to adjust the AC temperature. The notable features also include a large digital instrument cluster (previously seen in the LFA), a large integrated centre display and a tall raked centre console design. You can also notice that this interior largely mirrors the GS’s interior with a multi-tiered dash layout, the satin silver highlights, and strong lines overall. What’s interesting, the coupe version of the new Lexus is rumored to roll out, but the automaker doesn’t spill the beans.
