2013 Dodge Dart: New Car, Old Name

Digging deep into its past, to be exact back to year 1960, Chrysler Group decided to revive the name Dart for 2013 Fiat-based compact sedan which will be introduced to the world at the Detroit Auto Show on January 9, 2012. Featuring the same platform as Alfa Romeo Giulietta’s, the new compact car is likely to replace the Caliber crossover with the full production starting in April 2012. As for engine options, the 2013 Dodge Dart will carry the 1.4L turbocharged Fiat MultiAir unit, making 168 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. Other engines are the “Tigershark” 2.0L and the “Tigershark” 2.4L MultiAir four-cylinder.

While Chrysler teases us with exterior and interior shots of the new Dart , we can be absolutely sure that they are planning to make a statement. This is huge, because the featured materials and such a precise craftsmanship are characteristic for more expensive cars. As you take a closer look at the new Dart, you’ll realized it is not a reinterpretation of the original Dart, as its sharply angled head-lamps, the rear spoiler, and the grille are similar to the Charger. Apart from top notch materials which surprised us a lot, the model is also unexpectedly well equipped. While SE (base model) gets 16 inch wheels, SXT and Limited gets such 2013 Dodge Dart Accessories, as 17 inch wheels with Rallye option for the SXT, making six different wheel options in total. Offering a special blend of innovation, style, and performance, the Dart is between a compact and a subcompact in size. It is likely to have the following competitors on the compact side: Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze, and Toyota Corolla. As for the subcompact side, the competition will include Toyota Yaris, Chevy Sonic, Honda Fit, and Ford Fiesta.

Now take a look at two revealed teaser shots of the car that the automaker hopes will bring Dodge back to the compact segment “in a big way”. Here’s a close-up of the upcoming Dart’s front corner with head-lamps similar to the 2011 Dodge Charger.

Here’s the rear of the 2013 Dart featuring the taillights which are also similar to those on the 2011 Dodge Charger.

The 2013 Dodge Dart’s interior is really surprising due to cool amenities and delights for both, the driver and the passengers. Offering plenty of personalization options with 14 interior color and trim combinations, the Dart features the 7-inch TFT customizable gauge cluster display taking a center stage. One of features to boast is the 8.4-inch touchscreen, the largest one in its class and equipped with UConnect. There are also a stowed iPad and auxiliary jacks for all driver’s devices.

Following Fiat’s customization fetish, the new Dart’s interior will be offered in 14 different color and trim setups. By the way, there are also 12 exterior colors. Getting back to the interior and its materials, you can see that soft touch materials are used throughout the cabin. Even though the Dart is considered to be a compact sedan, its interior has the space of a mid-size vehicle.
