10 Bizarre Cars That Should Have Never Seen the Light of Day

Designing a car has never been easy and quick. It’s a process that usually takes years and sometimes involves different studios located across the globe. Before the product reaches the market, it’s been vetted many times. Knowing this, I really wonder how certain ugly models could ”go through”. Sure, defining automotive ugliness is a subjective thing, but I decided to make up my own list of the world’s ugliest cars. I couldn’t stop on one ugly model only from certain automakers. I should mention that some of these cars are even reliable and fun to drive, but here we are concerned with the looks as the primary basis. So every last one of the selected models is an ugly car.

10. Citroën 2CV

This car was once called a “low-priced umbrella on wheels” by French designer Pierre-Jules . Citroën 2CV was designed for French farmers and gained much popularity among hippies. Intended to be rugged and reliable, this Citroen drove like two lame mules. The “hippie-car” was produced between 1948-1990.

9. Aston Martin Lagonda

Instead of amazing the world as a supersedan, Aston Martin Lagonda fell flat on its face. There were only 645 models ever produced. There have been lots of ugly vehicles built, but there’s no other car like the Lagonda that would be so off the mark. Indeed, you can hardly imagine James Bond with a girl in this strangely shaped car.

8. Suzuki X90

While this car’s front end looks stubby, its cabin seems to be truncated. Suzuki X90 existed only for two years and the only reason it attracted the attention (apart from its ugliness), is being the go-to ride for Red Bull’s ads. Red Bull marketing department certainly turned this vehicle into a running billboard, but we hope most of these cars already turned into cans.

7. Ford Edsel

“Edsel” was synonymous with failure during its three years of production. While Ford promised its customers something special with affordable alternative to hot Cadillacs and Pontiacs, the Edsel turned out to be an “Oldsmobile sucking a lemon”. Eventually, it’s the weird look of its grille that made the car look like a monster. The company managed to sell 118,287 Edsels.

6. Fiat Multipla

When it comes to Fiat Multipla, I can be highly imaginative. I mean this vehicle reminds of many things, from the car that was melted on top of another car, to frog face, to the toy designed by Fisher Price. In spite of such weirdness, Fiat Multipla turned out to be one of the most preferable small transport.

5. Tata Magic Iris

I’m sure Tata Magic Iris is highly efficient and great for India. This five-seater is fitted with 11 hp diesel engine to compete with auto-rickshaws (the three-wheelers, popular in India). It was unveiled in 2010, but it already managed to hurt our eyes. It’s all about its weird shape. Seems like someone kicked the vehicle in the back and sent it on its way bouncing. Seriously, it’s my firm belief that Tata Magic Iris is one of the ugliest cars that have ever run the surface of the earth.

4. AMC Gremlin

First off, AMC Gremlin awakes our laughs at least because its name implies laughter. There’s also no surprise that the Gremlin was introduced on April Fool’s Day. Sure, it’s that desperate attempt to do something special (what resulted in odd looks) that would stand out on the market, but nevertheless, there were about 675,000 vehicles produced. Being small by the standards of the day, AMC Gremlin boasted great performance due to V-8 engine, which wasn’t found in competing compact cars.

3. Tatra T603

Looking like something in between a London Cab and a spider, Tatra T603 was built in the former Czechoslovakia in 1956-1975. Featuring three headlamps, this car is truly a duckling. The third headlamp (the one in the middle) was actually connected to the steering making it possible to turn the lamp with the steering.

2. Citroen Ami 6

Miserably shaped, 1965 Citroen Ami looks like a sad old person. Designed by an Italian sculptor, this Citroen is probably the ugliest Citroen ever produced. The roof in the rear is the most ridiculous part, since it neither serves any purpose, nor looks good. Really not attractive, but unique and electric, this french car was produced for the whole 18 years.

1. AMC Pacer

At first, the world was shaken with the Gremlin. Then AMC launched the Pacer, a 2 door hatchback, which was built between 1975 and 1980. The large panes of rounded glass in the rear gave the Pacer an unbalanced appearance.
